Shankupan on 3rd April 1973 in Mysore, Karnataka,Prabhu grew up in Alwarpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.Prabhu Deva was inspired by his father, SundaramMaster, who was a choreographer for popularSouth Indian movies. Prabhu took dancing as hispassion, learning Indian classical danceforms such as Bharatanatyam fromDharmaraj and UdipiLakshminarayanan as wellas Western styles. Prabhu Deva has revolu-tionized some of theaspects of dance andchoreography inmodern popularIndian cinema,reason why he isnamed as theIndian MichaelJackson. Hisbrothers RajuSundaram andNagendra Prasadare also establishedSouth Indian chore-ographers. Prabhu's first movie asa choreographer wasVetri Vizha (1989). Beforethat, he had appeared as abackground dancer for a song inthe Tamil film Agni Natchathiram. Hehas since then choreographed in over 100movies. From choreography, he went on to establishhimself as an actor. His first film as an actor wasIndhu (1994) with actress Roja. In 1999, he alongwith Shobhana and A. R. Rahman performed with aTamil cinema dancing troupe at the "MichaelJackson and Friends" concert in Munich, Germany.He performed with Hollywood actress and popularsinger Katy Perry at the 5th edition of IPL openingceremony on 3 April 2012 in Chennai along withAmitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoorand Priyanka Chopra. This event was special toPrabhu Deva as the actor shared his 39th birthday

on the same day. Prabhu Deva is a two-time winnerof the National Film Award for Best Choreographyfor his work on the film Minsaara Kanavu (1997) inTamil and Lakshya (2004) in Hindi, as well as aFilmfare Best Choreography Award (Telugu) forthe Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana(2005) and Filmfare Award for Best Choreographyfor film Lakshya. With the chants of Har har mahadev echoing all over, the Mahakumbh mela began inAllahabad with the holy dip on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Lakhs of devotees as wellas ascetics and religious leaders of various orders became the part of the inaugural day ofthe two-month-long congregation.
