Walsh is set to stepdown as Con coach

CORK CONSTITUTION head coachBrian Walsh is expected to step down atthe end of the season.He’s been part of the coaching team forthe past decade and lead coach for eightyears.During his stint, Walsh guided the club toAll-Ireland League, All-Ireland Cup andMunster Senior Cup glories.“I’ll be working with our director of rugbyGerry Holland in determining the wayforward.“We’re looking at putting systems inplace not just for next season, but thenext three, four and five years.“We should know more in the comingweeks,” he said.Walsh was speaking after his side’sspectacular 27-24 win over Dolphin inAll-Ireland League Division One A atMusgrave Park last night.Watched by a 3,000 plus crowd, Conmoved to third in the table and theleading Munster club by coming from6-24 down to snatch a dramatic win,courtesy of prop John Ryan’s eighthminute injury-time try.It was almost a replica of last season’sthriller at Temple Hill, when Con againcame roaring back to win 29-28 followinganother late, late show.“Dolphin had more urgency in their playin the first-half and were quicker onto theloose ball, so we spoke about that athalf-time,” Walsh added.Con fell further behind to a brilliant DavidO’Callaghan try, which put Dolphin 18

points clear after 50 minutes, but Conroared back with tries from Brian Hayesand Bryan Cagney to set-up a rousingfinish.“We showed a lot of belief andcomposure to come back. “At the end of it all,we should have seenthe game out and heldon to the three points.

“The boys workedtheir socks off and welooked good and we

looked dangerous.“We would have

taken a point beforekick-off but, in the cir-cumstances, I am dis-appointed that wedidn’t hold out.

“We have got toeradicate these lategoals and late penal-ties against us. I guessit’s down to a bit of in-discipline, a lack ofconcentration or a ladswitches off moment-arily and we get pun-ished.
