I think we should use the Harvard Onella lab case study (not yet written) as a better example here. It succeeds because of the emphasis on big data and what's possible to collect via phones. Downside is screen shots and visuals are very simple but it's more interesting

I think SERMO is still a good choice. It looks great and it's a great story. Sure it's not doing so hot, but it's still a great app to showcase.
