We wanted to send a thank you note to all of those families that followed the travelguidance this past week which made for a smooth return! It is crazy to think next Thursday
marks the end of quarter 3. When zooming out and looking at all that has beenaccomplished over the first three quarters you can't help but be proud. We are excited to
welcome back our Q4 opt in students Monday the 19th.
We did want to send a reminder about the health and safety measures needed to keepour school safe. We did send a Covid-19 notification to the community this morning vianewsletter. We have had great attention to details thus far and want to continue making
health and safety a top priority for us as we move into 4th quarter and through the end ofthe school year. Please stay diligent with your hand hygiene and health protocols. We also
cannot thank everyone for their flexibility and willingness for teamwork!
The students that opted for in person learning at the start of Q4 (April 19th) were notifiedtoday of their shift placement. We have 120 more students slated to join the hybrid modelfor Q4 which brings our total to 487 students (81%) please see the number breakdown inour updated slide deck. Reminder, that students currently in the hybrid model will have no
change to their placement and no action is needed.
We will do our lockdown drill next week, with our shelter in place drill shortly thereafter.Practicing these drills help us to maintain great habits with our school safety and providethe students & staff excellent review each year. Our students and staff deserve a pat on
the back for their attention to details and focus during these safety drills.
We have some upcoming important dates on the horizon! Friday, April 16th is a teacher in-service day and is a student non-attendance day. The following Wednesday will be ourparent teacher conference day, which again is a non-attendance day for students. To
ensure all parents have the ability to meet with their child's teacher the conferences willrun from 11am-6pm with a break from 2:45-3:30pm for lunch. These conferences will allbe held via Google Meet and the teachers will be sending out information in the coming
days with more specific information to each grade level.

Latest CPS CommunicationDear CPS Colleagues, Families, and Supporters,
After successfully opening elementary schools earlier thisyear, we are eager to provide our high school students withthe same opportunity for in-person learning later this month. While our discussions with the Chicago Teachers Union areongoing, we remain fully committed to welcoming back allinterested high school students on Monday, April 19.
The complexity of high school schedules requires eachschool to develop a unique reopening plan that aligns to thenumber of students returning in person and the space available for social distancing. Thedistrict has developed a set of scheduling models for schools to choose from that align toour health and safety guidance. If you’re interested in learning more about the models thatwill be used, please watch our presentation from the March Board Meeting, which outlinesthe different approaches for reopening. High schools have begun hosting their owncommunity meetings to discuss their scheduling model. If you are a parent or guardian ofa high school student, please check in with your school about their reopening plan.
As we’ve said before, the best place for our students to learn is in the classroom, and weare excited to finally be able to provide this option to our high school students. We thankyou for your continued partnership and look forward to a strong finish to this school year.
Sincerely,
Janice K. Jackson, EdD Chief Executive Officer Chicago Public Schools
Celebrating National Assistant Principals WeekThis past week, our district recognized the hard work of assistant principals acrossChicago for National Assistant Principals Week. extra mile for our students. One example is Ms. Michelle Soto, an assistant principal whohas been part of the Nightingale Elementary community since she was a third-gradestudent. Being the mom of two Nightingale students herself motivates her to connect herwork back to benefitting all students and the surrounding community.
What Our High School Students Have to SayAcross the city, our high school students have a variety of reasons why they are hoping toreturn to their schools as soon as possible. At Curie High School, freshmen Divine andLanayah believe that returning to their classrooms will help them develop new skills andstrategies for balancing their schoolwork and other responsibilities. They also want in-person access to their counselors, teachers, and other supportive adults. At AustinCollege and Career Academy, Marshawn, a senior, simply wants to celebrate the last fewmonths of his high school journey in an environment that feels like school to him. He alsowants to reconnect with his friends before they graduate.
A Look Inside Our Schools This WeekAt Ravenswood Elementary, students had the opportunity to enhance what they arelearning in the classroom through a visit from the Mobile Museum of Tolerance. Hearwhat four eighth-grade students had to say about the lessons they’ll take from theexperience into high school and beyond. And our teachers continue to pour their heartsinto finishing the school year strong. The kindergarten team at Randolph Elementary inWest Englewood has been working hard to keep every day fun and exciting for theirstudents—check out what a typical Wednesday morning looks like in their virtualclassroom. And Mr. Charles Gunn, a diverse learner teacher at Smyth Elementary, hasbalanced leading his own classroom while going above and beyond to meet thetechnology needs of his families.
