The Town Walls of Buarcos date back to the XVI and XVII centuries and, therefore, are
not as old as the castles.
Being so close to the sea, they were built for defence.

From the time of D. Sesnando, there is just
this Torre de Redondos, still quite visible, on one of the
highest places in Buarcos.

This is Forte de Sta Catarina, in Figueira da Foz, which cooperated with the Town Walls of Buarcos in defence.
The first monument you see as soon as you arrive in Figueira da Foz, this fort has recently become a very
pleasant place for families, surrounded by parking places and benches.

Figueira da Foz and Buarcos have more to offer than ancient buildings and amazing beaches. Artisanal salt production
(plus museum) and Serra da Boa Viagem for picnics are two alternatives.
