A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE DUKE ENERGY’S WORLD OF ENERGY AT OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND IT FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO ITS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Duke Energy’s World of Energy as it celebrates its fiftieth year of service to its community on Thursday, June 27, 2019; and
Whereas, World of Energy is a free education center that has served the public since July 1, 1969. Located in Seneca, South Carolina, it is situated on Lake Keowee beside Oconee Nuclear Station; and
Whereas, through the center’s self-guided exhibits, visitors of all ages can discover how energy is made from water, coal, and uranium and about the increasing importance of renewable energy from the wind and sun; and
Whereas, a hub of interactive learning, World of Energy features a video game area, puzzles, books, and a wide selection of movies that can be played in its auditorium; and
Whereas, with a picturesque location on the beautiful shores of Lake Keowee, World of Energy also offers a short nature trail, butterfly garden, public picnic shelter, boat dock, and fishing pier; and
Whereas, over the years, the center has educated and engaged more than three million guests and witnessed the growth of

Oconee Nuclear Station, which was still under construction when it opened; and
Whereas, today, Oconee Nuclear Station is one of the nation’s largest nuclear plants, with three nuclear reactors. Since beginning operation in 1973, it has safely and reliably generated more than five hundred million megawatt-hours of electricity; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the service of Duke Energy’s World of Energy to its community and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Duke Energy’s World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station upon the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary and commend it for its many years of service to its community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Duke Energy’s World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station.
