There is a God who loves you unconditionally
He wants to forgive all your sins
And make you His child.
What do you need to do? NOTHING, He did it all for you.
JUST RESPOND BY FAITH, easy as ABC:
(This summary was given by the late Dr. John R. W. Stott,
Anglican Chaplain to the Queen of England)
A – Admit that you are a sinner
(“All have sinned” – Romans 3:23)
B – Believe that Christ died for your sins on
the Cross and was resurrected – is alive!
C – Confess to others that you have believed.
Then grow in your faith by attending a Bible-preaching local church, fellowshipping with other believers and studying
God’s Word, the Bible.

We've got Experiencing Spirituality by Ernest Kurtz & Katherine Ketcham to start off the new year.
They “show how the great wisdom stories can enrich and deepen our spiritual lives. Recounting and inter-
preting tales from all ages and cultures, as well as many of their own, the authors shed light on such experi-
ences as awe, wonder, humor, confusion and forgiveness.” The book was donated to us by our friend Jim
Norris.
The Dog that Whispered (LP) by Jim Kraus is a delightful story about a dog who's growls sound like words.
He solves problems and brings people together of all ages. A totally unusual, but lovable dog.
John Grisham's Rogue Lawyer (LP) is a story about a street lawyer who works out of his car. The car is a
custom, “bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun com-
partment, and a heavily armed driver.” His clients are the worst of the worst and threats on his live are com-
mon place. “He hates injustice, doesn't like insurance companies, banks or big corporations, he distrusts all
levels of government and laughs at the justice system's notions of ethical behavior.”
Here's to Us (LP) by Elin Hilderbrand is the story of three woman who share only two things. They love the
man that they all married and hate each other. When the man dies his final wish is for them all
to assemble on Nantucket. They do, and the secrets they've all tried to hide come crashing down.
The Highlands Ridge book discussion group will meet on January 26 at 1:30 in the library. Nightingale, by
Kristin Hannah, is the book to be discussed.

Chorale News
By: Sue Shellhammer, Co-Director
Holiday greetings from the Highlands Ridge Chorale. We wish to extend a huge thank you to
everyone who supported our Christmas Fantasy concerts. Your enthusiasm inspired us to sing our best.
It seems that with the beginning of a new year, change can be felt in the air. Connie Carter, singer and co-
director for over a decade, has chosen to shift from her conducting responsibilities and enjoy the singing
aspects of chorale. We have been blessed to have her talents and dedication to guide and inspire us. Thank
you, Connie, from our hearts for the countless hours that you contributed to the betterment of chorale. We
wish for you much joy and satisfaction from all your fond memories and the very best in the future.
One thing can be said about our community. It abounds with folks who are gifted and wish to share their
talents. Cindy Becker is one of those individuals. She and Sue Shellhammer will be co-directing chorale
beginning in January. Recently retired from a vocal music public school teaching career, Cindy brings ex-
perience, and a love of leading choral groups. She and hubby Bob recently became HR homeowners.
Thank you Cindy. Welcome aboard. We are truly blessed!
On Tuesday, January 10th at 3:30 P.M., our rehearsals will begin in FH for the Spring Concerts. Anyone
feeling inspired to reactivate your vocal cords and join us, please contact Sue Shellhammer, 863-471-6171,
or Cindy Becker , 920-379-1161 for further information.
It’s that time of year to renew your chorale patronage or become a new patron. Please contact Jo Johnson
for forms and more information. 863-402-1308. The forms will also be available in the office. Your
$50.00 donation ensures that we will be able to purchase music, pay instrumentalists, and meet other ex-
penses to keep us thriving. In order for you to be recognized in our spring concert program, we need to
have your form returned to Jo or the office by February 20th. Thanks in advance for your support! You are
appreciated.
We’ll soon be ushering in 2017. May it be for you a year of fulfilled goals, new hope, and wonderment.
But most of all, keep a song in your heart!
Happy New Year!!!

The Ridge Report By: Birdy Whitehouse, Property Manager ~ birdy@highlandsridge.com
Hello to all residents of Highlands Ridge! I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas holiday and Happy New Year!
A few reminders that all articles/submissions for the Gazette are to be emailed to gazette@highlandsridge.com. The sub-
mission must be in a “word type” format. Starting with the January gazette, I would like to feature a picture on the cover
from within our beautiful community. So, please send any pictures you or someone you know may have taken in High-
lands Ridge with a brief description to gazette@highlandsridge.com.
Attention to all Marina Cove residents, the ad-valorem is due in our office or the drop box no later than January 2, 2017.
Anyone who has not paid the trash or ad-valorem after the due date will be sent to our collection agency. Please avoid this
costly expense and pay your invoice. If you are not sure if these invoices have been paid, please call or email us. The new
lot rent amount takes effect January 2017. Please remember to write down the correct amount in your checkbook if you
are on automatic draft and write the correct amount on your check before dropping the check off at the administrative of-
fice.
Please call the office before coming to the office if you want something notarized. Currently, there is ONE notary and we
are extremely busy this time of the year.
Grace Rodriguez is our new administrative assistant in the office. We hope to hire a new activities director very soon.
Thank you in advance during this time of transition with new staff.
It's a nice day, you're walking along and all of a sudden--squish. You don't even have to look because you know you've
really stepped in it. There's nothing quite like an encounter with a pile of dog poop to put the kibosh on a good day.
We love pets as much as the next person, but pet-owners aren't always as responsible or as green as they should be.
Being a responsible, eco-friendly pet-owner means picking up after your dog when they do their business--after all, it
helps protect human and animal health and the environment.
There are also some pretty important environmental reasons for proper pet waste disposal.
If left on the ground, your dog's excrement--including bacteria, viruses and other microbes--will usually end up in the
water table. A heavy rainstorm and spring run-off can easily carries dog waste into streams and rivers, and any waste
that ends up in storm sewers usually flows directly into a body of water without being treated.
Your pet's waste can also cause illness in other animals and in people. Dog excrement contains a long list of bad bugs,
including adenovirus, parvovirus, giardia, coccidian, roundworm, and tapeworm. Other dogs can easily become in-
fected, as can local wildlife; if illness spreads among wildlife, this can have a serious impact on the health of the eco-
system.
One way we can help keep sidewalks and parks dog-waste-free is to increase the number of bag programs in public
spaces. Some dog parks already have a bag dispenser so that pet owners can clean up if they've forgotten a bag. These
sorts of programs also help reduce the number of "Oh, I forgot a bag..." excuses for people who simply don't want to
clean up after their pet.
Once you have the poop in the bag, it's just a matter of swinging by a garbage can, right? Well, that's not really the
best idea. Pet waste really adds up: The City of Toronto determined that 23 to 27% of the waste in parks in 2006 was
dog waste.
While disposing your dog's waste in a garbage can is easier, the most eco-friendly way to deal with it is to take it home
and flush it (just don't flush the bag). Rather than ending up in a landfill, the dog waste will instead be treated along
with human sewage. This also helps divert considerable amounts of waste from landfills, so it's a real win-win.

Happy New Year! The HRHOA Board is off to a busy start for 2017. Gary Nielson invited Christy Reed
from Progressive Waste Solutions to our December 12, 2016 meeting. She apprised us of the upcoming transition
to the new trash collection system scheduled for early 2017. The receptacles were on display, one for garbage, one
for recycling. There will be ONE day per week for garbage pick up, and ONE day per week for recycle pick
up. Regarding clarification of recyclables: cardboard, paper, and plastic can go in the recycle receptacle. Glass
items are to be placed in the garbage receptacle. There were several questions that she will provide answers to when
she visits us again before the inception of the program. HRHOA 2017 Assessments billings have been mailed. The
amount is the same as last year, $25. per household. Please make your check payable to HRHOA and either return in
the envelope provided, or drop in the HRHOA box in front of Founders Hall.
At our December Board meeting, Sue Hover was appointed to the Board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation
of Duell Wise. We thank Duell for his service to Highlands Ridge by serving on the Board of Directors.
Three Board member positions are open due to expiring terms in March 2017. The seats being held by Gary
Dobereiner (replaced Bob Conner), Pat Shine (replaced Sandy Eichstadt), and Sue Hover (replaced Duell Wise) will
be up for nominations. Pat Shine is the Nominating Committee Chairman. Please contact him if you are interested
in serving on the Board.
Please be mindful of the staff shortage and training in the Administration Office. If you need items notarized, please
call for an appointment. The Office will thank you for your patience and understanding during this period of transi-
tion. Lastly, if you are not receiving notices of upcoming Board meetings, we do not have your current email ad-
dress. If you are a HRHOA member and wish to receive notice of upcoming meetings, please let us know by send-
ing us your email address (send to wfdmyers5539@gmail.com).
Our next Board meeting will be January 9, 2017 at 4pm in Founders Hall. Hope to see you there!

As the late Burl Ives song goes, “Have A Holly Jolly Christmas” and boy did we ever! On Dec. 10th your
Ridge elves put on a great show under the expert guidance of Pres. Cindy Robinette.
The candles were spread to the houses with care, soon to be lit in the cool evening air. The glow on the streets was a
sight to behold, while elves at the Hall had cookies untold. ( apologies to Clement Moore).
Helpers Pat Yirsa, Susan Beaudoin, and Karen Ferrand had the decorations and cookies ready for all residents.
Santa, Scrooge, and Chorale North Pole Elves provided entertainment that put the “jolly” in the holly. One of the
highlights of the evening was the “Twelve Days Of Christmas.” If you were not there, it was one of those “you had
to be there” moments. But nobody got hurt!
Here are this years’ winners: Carts..Ellen (Santa) Nesbitt, and Cynthia Moore’s family...Cookies: Pat Yirsa and
Brenda Johnson...Ugly sweater..Martha Killoran and Dan Seymour
Homes...South, Geri Roosa and Roger and Dawn Quay......North...Jim and Bunny Skaja and Doug and Karen
O’Laughlin. Honorable mention for homes..Phil and Deb Hunter and Kathy and Carl Wood.
Christmas trees...Carol Clark for Golden Years... and The Knitting and Crochet ladies. A special award was present-
ed to Madelene and Byron Stitzer who have won the best decorated house many times. This will be their last year as
they are moving to another home. The gift was a picture on canvas, of their Christmas home.
Plans for your next Holly Jolly are under way. Happy New Year to all and if you want to make a resolution that you
will keep, here is one: Be kind to one another.
Best Wishes for 2017 from MCHOA !!!
Your Marina Cove Board is making plans for our annual election of officers in March. If you are interested in serving

It's hard to believe that December and 2016 are behind us. It is said that "Time flies when you're
having fun!" Well, if that's true, we must be having a blast because time is whizzing by! I want to take a
moment to recap our December LGA events -- the Choose-up and the Christmas Scramble, both of which
took place at the North course with lunch in the Tavern following golf. We had great participation in both
events and lots of HaPpY winners. But I want to give a special shout-out to the ladies who made the Tavern
look like a New York restaurant, complete with white table cloths, creative and beautifully decorated tables
and WINE!! Willie Faye and Cheryl are a great team and the LGA is lucky to have them! And then, to Lin-
da Hathorn and Nancy Guillemette, a great big thank-you for their gift of Christmas Snowmen for our
Christmas trees. And kudos to Barb Edwards and Sue Hover for spearheading the Purses for a Pur-
pose. Could you believe the outpouring of love as seen in the number of gently used purses filled to over-
flowing! And finally, a heartfelt thanks to Sheila, our president, and the LGA Board for taking such good
care of our group! I'm telling you, we are blessed with some very talented ladies in our community!!! I am
extremely grateful to be a member of such a fine organization!
And now we move on to January 2017! First of all, a reminder that LGA golf tee times move to 11:30 in

A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION IS SOMETHING THAT GOES IN ONE YEAR AND OUT THE OTHER!
LGA NEWS
By: Ann Meyer, Vice President HRLGA18@gmail.com
The HRLGA-18 lady golfers held their Christmas festivities on Monday, December 12.
Beginning with the 8am shotgun were 64 ladies participating in the "Santa and her Reindeer" golf tourna-
ment. Winners of the event were Deborah Reimer with her reindeer, Shirley Anthony, Terry Kalis, and Deb
Morgan. Lunch was prepared and served in The Tavern at the North Course by Chef Robin and his staff.
Our Christmas project was "Purses for a Purpose", chaired by Barb Edwards. Ladies filled their gently used
purses with toiletry and sundry items, which were later delivered to the women's shelter, along with gift
cards given by the LGA members. We thank Joe and Pam Pace along with the kitchen staff for accommo-
dating us for this fun filled event.
