• To identify and characterize bio-binders and developing an ageing study

• To develop binder and mix design with Reclaimed Asphalt (RA)

• To compare behaviour of several mixes and select the most effective solution

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Bio-binder is an asphalt binder alternative made from non-petroleum-based renewable resources, which should not rival any food material, and have environmental and

economical benefits (Peralta et al. 2012)

TO PROMOTE THE USE OF RA MIXES WITH

BIOBINDERS

AIM

Project 1.2 (ESR2):Design and characterization of Reclaimed Asphalt mixes with biobinders

PROJECT

Bio-binders can be used in four different ways to decrease the demand for fossil-fuel-based bituminous binders:

A direct alternative binder (100% replacement) A bitumen extender (25-75% bitumen replacement) A bitumen modifier (<10% bitumen replacement)

A RAP bitumen rejuvenators
