This is Chowan Universi ty
Chowan University is a four-year co-education intuition. It is the second oldest of North Carolina's seven Baptist Colleges. Chowan opened in 1848 as a four year college for women, Chowan Baptist Female institute. It was renamed Chowan College in 1910, admitted male students in 1931, and established itself as one of the leading junior colleges in the South in 1937. In 1992 the college returned to four year status. In April of 2006 Chowan President, Dr. M. Christopher White announced the changing of the institutions name from Chowan College to Chowan University. The University fulfills its mission with a careful blend of both liberal arts and professional courses. Recognizing that such a blend of knowledge and experience is particularly suited to the needs of contemporary society. Chowan takes as priority the need to connect general education with specialized education, theoretical learning with practical learning, and intellectual skills with vocational skills. Set amid 300 acres of woodlands embracing beautiful Lake Vann, Chowan’s main entrance leads gracefully around a college green to an antebellum mansion known as the McDowell Columns Building. Sixteen major buildings of contemporary design provide air-conditioned residence, academic and recreational facilities. The small-town university campus attracts students from at least twenty seven states and several countries each year. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools fully accredits Chowan University to offer the bachelor’s degree.

Meet the 2015 CU Women’s Soccer Team
White enters his first season at the helm of the Chowan women's soccer program. He has spent the past four seasons coaching women's soccer at NCAA Division I institutions, with stints at Duke University, the University of Miami and Colgate University. Vice President/Director of Athletics Ozzie McFarland noted, "We are extremely excited to hire a coach of Chris' capabili-ties. Anytime you get a women's soccer coach that has strong references from Robbie Church at Duke and Anson Dorrance at North Carolina, you have someone special. We look to make significant advances under Chris' leadership much like we have made with our men's soccer program."
Head Coach Chris White

White served as an assistant coach for the Blue Devils' women's soccer program during the 2014 season where he worked specifically with the team's goalkeepers to develop student athletes' technical, psychological and fitness components. During the 2013 season, White served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Miami after spending two seasons at Colgate University. He noted, "I want to extend my gratitude to Dr. Kevin White, Dr. Chris Kennedy, Robbie Church and Carla Overbeck for the opportunity to work with the amazing stu-dent-athletes at Duke women's soccer. I learned so much about running a first-class program at Duke. After coaching at Duke, University of Miami, Colgate, extended coaching education in Spain and having worked with both former National Team Head Coaches Anson Dorrance and Tony Dicicco, I have a vision for Chowan and a plan for getting there." In his first season with the Raiders, White helped Colgate earn the Patriot League regular sea-son title and guided four players to All-Patriot League honors. The Raiders had a total of seven All-Patriot League selections, two Player of the Year and two Rookie of the Year honorees dur-ing White's time at Colgate. White served as the first assistant coach for the women's soccer program at Amherst College from 2010-11, where he assisted with all facets of the program including: recruiting, training, game preparation, camp and clinic management and scouting. Prior to his time in the collegiate ranks, White gained coaching experience at the high school level, coaching at six different high schools over the course of eight years. Additionally, he coached various club and Olympic Development Programs as well as high school and college camps. White earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Colgate in 1996 and was a four-year member of the Raiders' men's soccer team. (cont.)

Emily Karpinski enters her second season as assistant coach with the women’s soccer team. She graduated from Elmira College in June 2014 with a Bachelor of Science de-gree in Adolescent Education and Social Studies. Karpinski served as a student teacher at Elmira Free Academy for three months during her senior year where she established classroom management plans, created a student centered learn-ing environment and designed lesson plans for sophomore and juniors. Addi-tionally, she assessed student progress and utilized data on student performance to ensure learning while fostering cooperative relationships. Karpinski also had a student teaching opportunity at Ernie Davis Middle School. There, she worked with eighth grade students in the subject area of so-cial studies. She also modified lesson plans for students with disabilities and those that required academic accommodations. Karpinski also held a three month student teaching position at Riverside Elementary in 2011.
(cont.) During his career, White earned First-Team NSCAA Regional All-America honors as well as All-Patriot League recognition. Upon the conclusion of his athletic career at Colgate, White compet-ed for Perth Italia, an Australian First Division Soccer Club. White later attained two master's degrees, one in Environmental Science from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and one in Ecology and Native Studies from the University of North Carolina. He holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma including the NSCAA's Advanced National Goalkeeper Diplo-ma. White and the Hawks will hit the pitch in September and look to build off a 1-15-1 record from the 2014 season. "Soccer development is rapid and fun with highly motivated student-athletes. We will grow motivation and character, and continue to identify and welcome to Chowan promising and dedicated young student-athletes that will invest in themselves and bring credit to the athletic de-partment and Chowan University," noted White.
