Prove It! Contest

An inter-school competition that aims to make learning fun and

challenge students’ ability to seek information and develop a strong

aptitude for research

Important Dates 18 Mar 2013 (Mon) @ 9 am to 10 am Regional Contest at 4 locations (at Woodlands, Jurong, Tampines, Bishan Public Library

22 Mar 2013 (Fri) @ 9 am to 10 am National Contest (NLB Bldg L5) 23 Mar 2013 (Sat) @ 9 am to 10 am Prize giving at L5 NLB Bldg

Reporting Times -18 & 22 Mar 8 am to 8.30 am Registration and Signing up and collecting certificates 8.30 am to 9 am Final instructions and passing of Q papers 9 am to 10 am (pass up at 10 am sharp) Contest

Results on 19 Mar 2013 Type in infolit.nl.sg and click on Prove it! Regionals – 4 regions (WRL, JRL, TRL, BIPL) 3 winners each Nationals – 3 winners x 4 regions = 12 teams Top 3 prizes

Prove It! Research Challenge (Regionals):

1st prize: $300 worth of gift vouchers 2nd prize: $200 worth of gift vouchers 3rd prize: $100 worth of gift vouchers There will be a total of 12 prizes (three winners per region).

Prove It! Research Challenge (Finals):

1st prize: $1,000 + challenge trophy + 4 sets of iPod Shuffle 2nd prize: $500 + challenge trophy + 4 sets of iPod Shuffle 3rd prize: $300 + challenge trophy

Mechanics You have to try to as many questions as possible in 1 hour. Total - 30 questions Minimum of 2 sources needed to be valid Can do all 3 sources

Marking scheme Maximum score is 10 marks per question Correct Answer: 1 point Website: Depending on credibility 1 or 2 marks eDatabases: 3 points Print: 4 points

Marking scheme Maximum marks is 30 questions x 10 points = 300 points If you took part in Phase 1 poster making – you will have 5 bonus points (only for regionals) At National Contest, all are equal

Logistics NLB will provide 1 PC and 1 iPad Schools to provide 1 laptop with wireless modem or dongle

3) Practise some questions or better still do a

dry run at library

4) Have a strategy (division of labor)
