It’s no longer a question of why it’s important to seek out sustainable, organic or environmentally friendly
products and services; as we seek to live healthier, more sustainable lifestyles, the questions turn from why to
where.
Where do I find non-toxic nail polish? Where do I buy grass-fed beef? Where do I take my family when I’m seeking
holistic medicine?
The Little Lake County Green Guide bridges the gap between health-conscious families and health-centric
businesses and services.
Additionally, the businesses listed in the Spring 2013 Green Guide have also included coupons; be sure to print out
only the coupons you intend to use and conserve while you save some green.
Thank you for supporting local businesses who take seriously the call to healthy living; by giving these businesses
our patronage we not only help our local economy and our own families, but we also increase the health of our
greater local community.
Be well. Be healthy. Be green.

Raising little ones with as little toxin exposure as possible isn't just possible in Lake
County; it's also enjoyable! A smattering of small businesses offer everything from
cloth diapers to all-natural teething toys, non-toxic finger paints and organic cotton
clothing just to name a few things.
When you're ready to take to the suburban streets, have fun exploring the
outdoors, learning how to farm or teaching kids about conservation through fun
exhibits and hands-on activities at local farms, preserves and park districts. And
when you need a break and kids need to burn some steam, Lake County even
features kid-friendly play spaces and cafes that focus on eco-friendly building and
cleaning methods and/or healthy and sustainable food options.

A journalist by nature and profession, Hyacynth has been on special assignment from the Great Editor and Chief covering the foreign land of motherhood for five years. While she admittedly enjoy covering bare baby bottoms with diapers, she does, from time to time, miss covering chair-throwing, name-calling town hall meetings during her newspaper reporter days. But those moments of day-dreaming bliss are often burst by a toddler's tantrum, which, ironically enough, does include pee-wee chair throwing and name calling.
Hyacynth writes about faith, marriage, healthy living and grief and loss in motherhood at Undercover Mother. She is wife to very a tolerant, patient man, John, who had no idea what he was getting himself into when her married her shortly after returning from a study abroad trip to Egypt when they were both 22. John and Hyacynth began their journey in green, organic, sustainable living when Hyacynth became pregnant with their oldest son. They garden, support local farmers, cook slow food and have
dreams to someday live off the land with a little assistance from their two dirt-happy sons. As a researcher and skeptic, Hyacynth devours articles, studies and books on health, wellness and nutrition, but her first-hand health experiences with her own body, family members and clients have most dramatically persuaded the Worth family that a whole foods diet and sustainable, natural lifestyle with lots of laughter is the best medicine … and the way to really live well.

Melissa is mom to four kids and two angels. She once lived in heels and dreamed of traveling the world, now she lives in her minivan and dreams of a clean kitchen. Melissa left a career in health-care to tend to scraped knees and snotty noses and finds it just as gross but more rewarding. Melissa shares all the sticky bits of
life with a house full of kids daily at Peanut Butter in my Hair. She left the city for the
suburbs and frequently finds herself lost. She created Little Lake County to help parents find out what’s going on and where to go, but she still can’t find the peanut butter at her super-sized Target.
Melissa is passionate about “little,” whether that be little people and entertaining them or small businesses and supporting them. She wants to help the parents of Lake County realize the wealth of resources they have right in their backyard. Through Little Lake County’s Mompreuner Monday’s, 12 Shops of Christmas and Green Lifestyle Guide, she connects people to the businesses
in Lake County that they are looking for.
