BlinkBFA graduate catalogue 2012

The title of this year’s BFA exhibition makes me think about time passing

from the present to the future. Once every five seconds the forward momentum

of time pauses as we blink. If we could control the reflex and slow it down, the

uncertainty of the moment would be revealed. In a split second we make a choice

to either focus on the recent past or leap into the unknown of the near future.

Over the past four years I have had the pleasure of working with many of

the students in this graduating class. They are ambitious, driven, funny and tal-

ented. Their studies have taught them to challenge themselves and take risks.

Recognizing that they make their best art in the ambiguous space between what

they know and what they haven’t discovered. These artistic creators don’t dwell

on the past; they are the alternative - constant inventors. The resulting exhibition

expresses time. Bink is a celebration of past knowledge, recent achievements and

the possibilities of the future.
