ACT Reports
• ACT provides two types of reports:
– Graduating Class ACT results – based on the previous graduating seniors
– NEW: State-wide administration results for the 11th grade administration
The 2012 ACT
• All NC 11th grade students were administered the ACT in March 2012– 9 other states with same requirement: Colorado,
Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Dakota, Tennessee, Wyoming
• Baseline year as a high school measure in the new NC READY accountability model– College and Career Readiness
ACT’s College and Career Readiness System
• EXPLORE – 8th grade (first time in 2012-13)
• PLAN – 10th grade
• ACT – 11th grade
2011-12 State Testing Program
• All Grade 11 Students:– ACT – English (45 mins), Mathematics (60
mins), Reading (35 mins), Science (35 mins), and Writing (30 mins)
• Standard Time, ACT-Approved Accommodations, and State-Allowed Accommodations
• Not used for accountability in 2011-12• Used for accountability in 2012-13
ACT Subtests
• Students are assessed in four subjects, plus writing• Reported as a composite and by subtest

ACT BenchmarksMinimum scores on the ACT English, Mathematics, Reading and Science that reflect at least a 50 percent chance of achieving a B or higher grade, or at least a 75 percent chance of a C or higher grade, in entry-level, credit-bearing college course without the need for remediation.

• Determines whether students have the foundational skills needed in specific occupations

• High scores earn students varying levels of a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
