Recent QTAC developments QTAC has been undertaking consultations as part of a review of Special
Consideration of Disadvantage
Initially were trying to identify ways in which QTAC could assist institutions with the identification of low socio-economic status applicants
Identified it would be preferable to reform the Special Consideration of
Disadvantage (SCD) scheme
QTAC Board will be considering proposals on 6 May
If approved an new Educational Access Scheme will be implemented this year for admissions in 2012

QTAC Update (continued) The Scheme will be based on an increased number of categories of
disadvantages - 8 categories are being proposed including: • financial hardship• disrupted schooling• refugee status• natural disasters
Applicants can identify more than one type of disadvantage
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have experienced educational disadvantage as a result of their circumstances
Applicants will need to have an Educational Support Statement completed if they have been enrolled in study at any stage in the previous 3 years
