ISMT  General

Can a training/ instructional technique be identified that can enhance marksmanship skills while using the Marine Corps' Indoor simulated Marksmanship Trainer?

Specific Can the Indoor Simulation Marksmanship Trainer (ISMT) be used

as an effective part-task trainer to improve performance for acquiring and engaging targets of the Table 1 course of fire on the Marine Corps Known Distance (KD) Rifle Range Qualification Course?

Study Goal Provide identifiers that assist instructors to focus on a shooter's

weak points that prevent them from reaching proficient levels of marksmanship.

OBJECTIVES:   Improve marksmanship skills acquisition/sustainment by developing automated assistance capability for coaches and students.

Demonstrate the utility of a generalized training system model that links performance monitoring to customized training interventions with predictable training transfer

Effectiveness Evaluation

Mechanics of basic marksmanship automatically acquired, assessed and reported to the instructor/coach. Multiple sensors integrated with coaching software to decrease time of evaluation, increase student throughput and adaptable to different learning environments (live fire, simulation).

The system and coaching software can move between live fire and simulation we have an end to end training framework that will also allow long term tracking of marksmanship problems (which skills they repeatedly have problems with).

Working in conjunction with other performers we are working to provide marksmanship data that will support the development of a military taxonomy of work and in return develop a systematic TEE for this study.
