JACKET DEFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY

1. Stop the run (Load the box) Movements for undersized kids Div. 1 (29 – 1, when opponent under 100 yards)

2. Simple = Success (Dungy)3. Must Be Fixable (Stand the test of time)4. Win Turnover Battle

NFL Study: 82% Win

5. Must Be Able to Play Some Form of Man6. Have Two Answers For Each Set7. Must Be Able To Pressure (Fire Zone/Silver)8. One Rep Every 25 Seconds

2 scout groups for Skel/Inside

9. Don’t Give Up the Big Play10. Take Away opponent’s “Bread and Butter”

Why Palms Coverage

1. Gives a 9 man box vs. 21 personnel.2. Can be played vs. any formation.3. Little adjustments vs. motions/trades4. Handles vertical entry by four receivers.5. Gives QB different look based on route.6. Great check vs. empty sets.7. Rules do not change based on an offense.8. Always are gap sound regardless of set.9. By reading #2 OLBs can be box players.

Palms Coverage

Concept: 2 Read Checks: 1. 21: Robber 2.Trips: Trio or Mini

Corner Read #2 : If vertical play #1 If flat react up to him

Mike Carry #3 vertical. Make alert call to back. Push call if back

Robber Robber is a Field Coverage (FSL play Cover 3) Set front to the Field (3 Tech.)

Why Robber Coverage

1. Takes pressure off the field corner.2. Good vs. bubble screens because

of leverage.3. Good first and ten call.4. Can be played vs any set.5. Forces #2 receiver to block

immediately.6. Backside of Robber can change

weekly.7. Always the front of the coverage.
