The 2012 Regatta Schedule
• 2012 will see the return of the prestigious Pendennis
Cup to the waters of Falmouth Bay, Cornwall.
• 5 days of exciting superyacht racing for modern and
classic yachts.
• The Regatta will be complemented by a full
programme of entertainment and events in and
around the town.
Pendennis Cup 2012 Overview
• Five days of adrenaline filled racing for three classes of yachts: Big class – waterline length exceeding 15m Original classics – waterline length exceeding 10m, but less than 15m Modern classics – waterline length exceeding 15m
• Racing under IRC – pursuit format
• Berthing at Port Pendennis Marina and at anchor
• Support fleet of over 12 boats, including a spectator vessel with over 50 passengers per day
The Racing
• Provide 5 days of exhilarating racing out in Falmouth
comparable to the world’s best superyacht regattas
• To attract between 15 - 20 large yachts, with modern
yachts competing alongside the world’s most iconic classic
yachts, creating an exhilarating world class display for
participants and spectators
• Provide a diverse range of shore side events & activities
for captains, crew, event partners and VIP guests
• Generate extensive positive multimedia exposure for
Pendennis and Cornwall
2012 Objectives
• Over 80 online and print articles about the Cup were published.
• Information and footage of the cup was exposed on regional television and radio, with live interviews conducted during the week by the BBC.
• Over 350 industry colleagues took part in the Cup over the 6 day event including Superyacht Owners, Captains, journalists, brokers, designers, naval architects and suppliers.
• Successful events were held around the racing programme including a Welcome Barbecue at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, Caribbean Party Night, VIP Lunch, Crew & VIP Curry Night, Falmouth Art Gallery Private View and the final Awards Presentation.
Review of the Pendennis Cup 2010
• Pendennis and Antigua Yacht Club partnered to organise a Trans-Atlantic fun regatta to feed in to the UK 2012 Olympic superyacht programme
• The Falmouth – Falmouth Rum Race will run in the opposite direction to the traditional Route de Rosé - beginning at the Antigua Yacht Club in Falmouth Harbour, following Antigua classics with the option for yachts to start earlier if they prefer, with a possible stop in the Azores on route. • Kenny Coombs of Antigua Yacht Club commented “We are very pleased to be involved in this exciting new event on the yachting calendar. The Falmouth – Falmouth link will no doubt attract a great number of yachts to link up with a number of fantastic UK-based regattas in 2012.”
