reform!

Here is their story…

The Puritans were believers…~They believed that Bible was God’s

true law

~They believed that Bible provided a

plan for living they wanted to “purify” church & lives

~Adam & Eve damned mankind, but good people would be “saved”

in order to be “saved” Puritans MUST be self-reliant,

industrious, humble & live simple lives

They came with a purpose!!-large numbers fled to America

(17,800 in 1640 to 106,000 in 1700)

-God motivated everything they did & they knew the devil was everywhere!

Salvation was their goal…

America was a land of new opportunity…

The Puritans created a“City on a Hill”

Religion & Rules ~their lives were strictly governed by their

religious laws

**punishments were brutal!!!

Why were the Puritans important???

The contributions they made created today’s American society…~ They gave us…Education

Harvard (college to teach preachers)

~ They gave us… Separation of Church & State

~They gave us…the Foundations for New American government
