2017 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
President Jeff Brighton
Vice President Kim Stratta
Secretary David Cary
Treasurer Daren Day
Dear friends, neighbors, and fellow members:
It’s hard to believe a third of this year is already in the rearview mirror. As your board president, I have to
admit that these 4 months have been a bit more eventful than expected, but our staff and our members
continue to pull together and meet every challenge. Even last Saturday when the lights went out at the club
during the severe storm that hit our area, the party in our lounge carried on by candlelight. The next day, the
sun shone brightly on the golfers at the Tom Green tournament, and all was well at the club.
Speaking of the (tragic) storm last weekend, you may have noticed that our staff decided on their own to
collect and distribute needed items for folks in the area who were in need of assistance. Please join me in
thanking them for their thoughtfulness and initiative, and thank you too if you contributed.
The golf season is in “full swing”, and we have another busy month planned in May. The course is in great
shape overall, and I hope you have been enjoying it as much as I have. Our restaurant specials are continuing
throughout the week, so for those of you who haven’t stopped by lately for a great meal, come on up and
enjoy! Even better, bring any non-member friends with you for golfing and/or dining so they can experience
our great facilities and friendly atmosphere for themselves. As always, be sure to welcome any new
members you may meet around the club – our theme this year is “maintain the momentum”, and new
members are how we can ensure the future of this club. Finally, don’t forget that we will celebrate the 50 th
anniversary of Cedar Creek Country Club at the end of this month. Be sure to come up and join the
celebration!
Thank-you,
Jeff Brighton

Are you directionally challenged? Do you want a more consistent ball flight? One of the first places to
check is your grip. There are two common mishaps when it comes to gripping the club.
Placing the grip in the palm of your hands.
Placing your hands in a ‘weak’ position on the grip.
These two common grip issues can result in grip pressure problems, inconsistent ball flights (left and
right) and overall swing flaws including overuse of the hands and arms.
To correct these issues follow these two simple steps.
Place the grip of the club in the fingers of your hands.
Rotate your left hand (right-handed players) clock-wise until the crease between your thumb
and your pointer finger is pointed close to you right shoulder. This should allow you to see
at least 2, if not 3 of your knuckles on your left hand. Finally, place your right hand on the
club with your thumb pointing close to straight down the grip, if not, just off to the left.

MANAGER’S NOTES, COURSE & TOURNAMENTS
Manager’s notes
superintendent’s note
This year is off to a great start. Robbie Sutton Petty
created two fantastic fund raisers that raised much needed
money for improvements to the club. We have added 20
new members and are booking new events. The Friday
Night seafood buffets have been very popular and the golf
course is looking great. Our entire team is doing a great
job making sure you have a good experience.
Attendance for all of our club golf tournaments is up
about 50% and the Tom Green Tournament was a huge
success again. We are rapidly moving towards our 50th
Anniversary Memorial Day Weekend celebration. Please
mark your calendars to attend as many of the functions as
possible.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration is the start of a busy
summer, including two Steak & Beans events, and we
hope you’ll all participate. June 22-25 is our Member/
Guest Tournament, where we will introduce the Callaway/
Perry Ellis mobile pro shop. Players will be able to choose
their own tee gifts and use winning gift certificates to
make purchases, or you can save your tee gift card to
combine it with your possible winnings for a bigger prize
at the end of the tournament. Let’s keep the positive
momentum going by keeping the attendance up for all of
our events.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
A few months ago, I mentioned our aggressive
aerification plan which Dewayne and I hope will help get
our Bermuda Grass Decline under control. Well, the time
has come to put that plan in motion. Our first full scale
aerification is planned for May 16th and 17th. Since hand
watering the greens is part of the plan we will need some
volunteers to help with the process. Dewayne has
purchased some light weight hoses, which will make the
process much easier. Now all we need are volunteers; we
have four hoses so we need four operators. We will only
do 9 greens per day and it should not take much effort to
accomplish the moisture level needed to allow for a
successful aerification. Please call the Pro Shop and or
stop by to sign up to help.
-Randy
April has blessed our course with some much
needed rainfall and above average temperatures.
Aerification of our Green surrounds, Tee tops and
surrounds have all been completed, we have
applied herbicide to help elevate our weeds in the
rough areas, still watching a few greens for POA-
Annua. I believe warmer temps and mechanical
practices will take care of this for us.
Greens aerification with pencil tines has been
postponed due to equipment issues, our major
greens aerification should go as planned on May
16th+17th with 1/2” hollow tines, and a good
fungicide application.
May also will be the start of our verticutting and
light sanding of our greens, we will start with a
less aggressive verticutting more often, rather
than being aggressive less often, to remove as
much thatch as possible during growing season.
Your golf course is in great shape. Please enjoy it
and take care of it.
Thanks,
D.

MEN AND WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION Greetings from the WGA:
We have two really fun tournaments coming up in May and June.
The first Guys and Gals tournament will be held on Saturday, May 13th. We are working with the Pro
Shop to provide a tournament that will appeal to everyone. Watch for an email soon to give you all the
changes. Couples and singles are welcome. We are hoping to have a good turnout so please sign up in
the Pro Shop.
The second big tournament will be Steak & Beans on Saturday & Sunday, June 10-11. The WGA has
the privilege of sponsoring this event this season. This is one of the most popular tournaments of the
year. Again, couples and singles are all invited to participate. There will be an email soon giving all the
details. Whether you end up eating steak or beans, it is always a lot of laughs so please sign up for this
event in the Pro Shop.
The WGA is actively selling tickets for their Mother’s Day Raffle. This is our one big fundraiser of the
year. The winner will receive $200.00 in cash, roses and candy…..a great way to honor the special
“Mother” in your life. The drawing will be on Thursday, May 11th but you do not need to be in
attendance to win. You can buy your tickets from any WGA member. We would appreciate your
support!
Thanks go out to Julie Wells for conducting free mini-clinics before Play Days on Thursdays. We
appreciate all the tips!
Chick Golf is underway twice a month on Tuesday evenings. It is a “stress free” evening of fun and
fellowship. Whether you are a beginner or an active player, come on out…it is a great way to get to
know each other.
Hope to see you on the course.
Linda Goode
