“We observed some of our learners starving, school uniforms in bad shape

and unable to pay school fees.”

Andile Nyanda

Kwa Ntebeni Comprehensive High School - Nyuswa

Why did we start this project.• No learner can

concentrate on an empty stomach!

• We felt ashamed and decided to do something.

• Because of our age we needed a mentor.

• After a few missed Wednesday meals from Richdens Spar, it finally came.

Our first food to feed the hungry

Tackling a problem – never give up!

• We discussed this with Mr Gwala, Headmaster of Kwantebeni, and he consented.

• We found a Mentor: Linda Locke.

• We went to Makhaphuthu Orphanage looking for help.

When did all this start?• During September/October 2011 we added a

new group.• Meetings were held and debates took place.• Makaphutu gives us soup to feed the starving –

once a week.• Sometimes we get bread from “Friends of the

Community” to add to the diet.

Our next step

• The starving children have hungry people at home.

• So, we started a vegetable garden, with sponsorship by Light Providers (NGO).

• We work it ourselves.• We feed more and more

people.

The Garden

• We, as Grade 11 learners are not only running this project, but are also establishing a vegetable garden.

• We do have problems, who doesn't? Ours are goats!!!!!! They love our vegetables so we need fencing urgently.

Industry is also getting involved.

One of our members, Sphelele Phewa’s mother works at a sock factory and her company sponsors school socks to boys and girls in need.

• A stove to make more food.

• More food donations.• Uniforms, old or new. • Fruit and juice.• Money will be welcome.• More people who care.

One year – we achieved this!!

• Now we say thank you to all those involved in thought, help and prayer.

• We look forward, onward and will conquer.
