JUDGING PROCEDURESInterview: One of the most important aspects of the Pageant is for the judges to meet eachcontestant individually. It is during this personal interview that the judges have an opportunityto observe personality, charm and conversational ability.
Evening Gown: Clothes don’t make a woman, but rather it is the woman who makes theclothes. During this event, the judges seek the contestant whose poise and grace display notonly her style of clothes, but also her style of life.
Inner Beauty: Physical beauty is recognized, but the Pageant seeks to emphasize that true beau-ty is a matter of insight as well as eyesight. Each contestant is given the opportunity to present astatement which conveys her “philosophy of life”.
Talent: The talent presentation is an integral part of the Pageant. It is designed to encouragetalent from music to art to homemaking, and demonstrates that these gifts do not diminishwith age.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDThe Ms. Virginia Senior America organization offers a Community Service Award to honor thecontestant who excels in volunteer service in her community. This optional event is judgedindependently from the rest of the Pageant. The contestant chosen for this award need not be aPageant finalist. To qualify she must submit a short essay describing her activity and supplysupportive information to substantiate her involvement. The selection is made prior to thePageant and the selected contestant is recognized at the Ms. Virginia Senior America Pageant.Prior recipients of this award include: Dorothy Russ, Beverly Wetherbie, Barbara Guerrieri,Patricia Torrence King, Jackie Bong-Wright, Suzann Howe, Nancy Lee Martin, Mary Sunbeam,Betty Mann, Suzi Athanas and Linda F. Huntley.
Linda F. Huntley, right, won the Community Service Award at last year’s pageant.
