Mile Stones

• Late 70s: Uganda Heart Foundation (UHF) formed

• 1988 – Uganda Heart Foundation Registered as an NGO

• 1990: Founded the Uganda Heart Institute

Objectives

• Pursue educational campaigns on heart health• To plan and assist in research programs on

heart disease • Establish an institution known as the Uganda

Heart Institute • To acquire and lease land, construct, and

acquire building • To raise money for any of the above purposes

Fundraising Activities

• 1990: received the 3-H Grant of US$ 208,500 from rotary International, for:

US$ 5000 for Tobacco fight from the UICC

Ongoing Fundraising

• For poor children in need of treatment for heart disease both locally and abroad

• In conjunction with partners to raise funds for specific projects– Standard chartered bank– Soweto string quartet

Establishment of The UHI

• UHF in conjunction with the MoH, MUK and Mulago Hospital formed the UHI

• Was established in 1992

• Registered as a limited company in 2001

• Granted vote status in 2009

• Has performed over 30 open heart surgeries since 2007

• Catheter lab is being procured now

• World heart day cerebrations

• Talks to specified interest groups

• These are being limited by lack of funds
