The  7 of April of 1888 was the creation of The National Meteorological Institute

Pittier is recognized as the director of the work.

The first systematic observations of rain and temperatures of San Jose and the study of the climate of the country began.

Geographically, the planetary band understood between the parallel Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, it is defined as A Tropical Zone.

The location of our country in this region him awards tropical characteristics to his ecological environment: forests, hydrographic network, soils and climate.
