• 50% of Ph.D graduates are never able to publish a single article in any top journal

• If you are publishing one article per year in any top journal, you are in the top 5% of Ph.D faculty (Boyd et al, SMJ, 2005)

• On average, it takes about 7 years to move an idea to a printed article

• Rewards for top pubs are immense [e.g., $100K annuity per A article (Gomez-Meija & Balkin, AMJ, 1992)]

• Use journal target norms as a yardstick to ensure no corners are cut in data collection and methods
