Kinds of Tongues: Jesus

• they will speak with new tongues, Mk 16:17• The doctrine of tongues can be found in the gospels,

• You cannot find an example where Jesus spoke in tongues!

• Ironically, what activity of the Spirit do you think the Corinthians over-emphasized?

Interpretation of Tongues: Jesus

• they will speak with new tongues, Mk 16:17• The doctrine of interpretation of tongues can be

found in the workings of the church in Acts, and in the Epistles, but…

• You cannot find an example where Jesus interpreted tongues!

• Again, what working of the Spirit did the Corinthians over-emphasize

Unselfish giving: love

• You cannot find an example where Jesus used one of these manifestations of the Spirit for selfish gain

• Jesus’ purpose was always for the benefit of others

Signs and wonders follow believers.

Word of Knowledge in the Church

• Shadow healing, Acts 5:15• Healed of unclean spirits, Acts 5:16, 8:7• Paralysis & lameness healed, Acts 8:7• Blindness healed (Paul’s!), Acts 9:17• Handkerchiefs and aprons of Paul healed of demons and

Working Miracles: Church• Stephen full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among

the people, Acts 6:8

• People listened to Philip because of the powerful miracles that he did, Acts 8:6

• Healed from paralysis, raised from dead, lame walked, unpoisoned Ac 9:34, 40, 14:10, 20:7-12, 28

• Blinded a sorcerer! An earthquake! Acts 13:11, 16:26

• Set free a demon possessed sorceress and made owners mad! Acts 16:16

• “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Prophecy in the Church• Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the

Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar. Acts 11:28

• There were prophets in the Calvary Chapel in Antioch and God spoke… Acts 13:1-2

• And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed [them]. Acts 15:32
