Dear Parents & Caregivers, How quickly the weeks roll around and come up again. Things are always busy, and productive in this great school.
The Leader’s Conference I attended recently was quite inspirational. Rick Persse, the Chief Executive of DECD opened the day stating that the public education system in SA has very ambitious aspirations of becoming a world-class education hub.
The keynote speaker Stephen Dinham, of the University of Melbourne Spoke about “leading learning and teaching or what it means to be an instructional leader.”
Here at Lock we have begun the careful analysis of test data that informs teaching programs. We have resourced professional learning where it is currently aligned with our Site Improvement Plan.
Our Student Free Day was focussed on our Site Improvement Plan goal of improving student writing across all subject areas. Teachers were engaged in the sessions and have developed a plan to not only achieve our goal but to improve our own teaching practice. Thanks to Robyn, Kristy and Karen for providing the expertise for this to happen.

800m and 1500m Events
Last Friday and this Tuesday, Lock Area School held its 800m and 1500m long distance running events. Massive
congratulations must go out to all competitors that elected to compete in these events. To see so many people
committed to challenging their fitness and earning points for their house teams was excellent to see. Students
ranging from the U9 through to the Open age groups participated strongly and positively in both events, with
amazing student support egging on our runners on the sidelines. A final thankyou needs to go out to all students
and staff who assisted with timing and place-judging.
Ribbon Winners
Well done to the following students who earnt a 1st, 2nd or 3rd placed ribbon in the 800m and 1500m events.

Lock Sports Day Friday 13th March
Practice Sports day is this Friday and the students of Lock AS are now busy practicing for their events during their DPA time. Carnival Times The carnival will start at 9am and finish between 2:30pm-3:00pm. Students will be free to leave with parents after the carnival has finished, but must ensure they let their Home Group teacher know. If students aren’t picked up by parents, they will go home as per normal after 3:10pm. Footwear Students are required to wear covered shoes during the throwing events (Javelin, Discus and Shot Put) and we recommend that they wear suitable shoes for the other events. This is consistent with Interschool’s Sports Policy. Food and Drinks There will be a BBQ available to purchase on the day which will be run by Governing Council, and there will also be a coffee and cake stall run by Parents and Friends. Volunteers As always we will need time keepers and place judges. We greatly value the help from parents and others and cannot give enough thanks for the help that we receive on these days. Without your help the carnival would not be a success. If you are able to help out on the day for any length of time or for the whole day, it would be greatly appreciated. We would like to be organised before the day so if you can help, please fill in the form below and return it to the school TOMORROW or contact the school or myself on 8689 1019 for more information. Yours Sincerely, Jake Rogers Sports Coordinator

It’s a great fundraiser where the funds go straight back into your children’s equipment at school.

Have you ever thought about becoming an ambulance volunteer?
The Lock Station is in desperate need of more members to attend emergency and non-emergency
ambulance calls, as well as other duties.
Volunteers do not need to be on call 24/7. Rosters and training are flexible and are designed around you, so
that you can progress at a pace that you are comfortable with.
Previous experience or medical training is not necessary as excellent training will be provided. Come to a
training night to see what you will learn and how you can help.
It’s easier than you think.
Take the step today to help your community.
