John 15:1-8

• I AM ~ an allusion to God’s identification as “I AM”

• True Vine ~ a contrast with OT Israel (sour grapes)

• Father (Gardener) ~ cutting off & pruning

(15:2, 4-5)

• barren ~ unchanging, unbending (v2)

• self reliant ~ un-surrendered, un-dependant (v4)

• moving away ~ unconnected, unhooked (v5)

(15:4-5, 7)

• continually in His Presence (v4)

• evidenced by much fruit (v5)

• confidence to ask (shaped by

His Word), & receive much! (v7)

John 15:9-17

• remain in His love (v9)

• obey His “commands” (v10)

• love each other even to death (v13)

• joylessness ~ mistaking we’re unloved workers (v11)

• cut off-ness ~ thinking we’re un-intimate servants (v15)

• forgetfulness ~ of our chosen-ness (v16)

• friends, not servants (v15)

• chosen, not seeking a Master (v16)

• authorized in His Name, not voiceless (v16)

John 15:18 – 6:4

• hated for who we are (v18)

• rejected for whose we are (v19)

• disowned & persecuted thinking

they’re doing God a favour (v2)

• keeping the course, undeterred (v1)
