CControl of Discrete-EEvent Systems
TBEE05506
Discrete-event systems are ubiquitous in engineering: manufacturing systems, communication protocols, transportation networks, and logistics. The course will cover discrete-event system modeling, supervisory control design, distributed control by supervisor localization, and control under partial observation.
Be able to model discrete-event systems and design controllers for them. Be able to build different control architectures.Be able to use software TCT for control design.
1 Introduction to discrete-event systems: examples and control architectures2 Automata model: finite-state automata, language representation of behavior3 Supervisory control theory basics: control technology, concept of controllability4 Supervisory control synthesis: centralized supervisor synthesis, use of TCT design software5 Supervisory control examples: small factory, transfer line6 Supervisor reduction: state reduction of centralized supervisor7 Distributed control architecture: concept of distributed control, concept of localization8 Distributed control by localization: supervisor localization theory and design method9 Distributed control examples: small factory, transfer line10 Decentralized supervisory control: decentralized control architecture, problem of conflicting11 Decentralized control and coordination: coordination of decentralized supervisors12 Localization of large systems: combining decentralized control and supervisor localization13 Partial observation: partial observation of events, concept of observability14 Partially observed supervisory control: control design with partial observation15 Timed discrete-event systems
Before each lecture, review the content of the previous lecture.
After each lecture, work out the problems in the homework assignment.
W.M. Wonham, “Supervisory Control of Discrete-Event Systems”, University of Toronto1. Six homework assignments 60% (each assignment 10%)
2. Final project 40% (report 20%, presentation 20%)
The course emphasizes systematic approach to problem solving; no prerequisite.
