The city started in 1620s. In 1800s it had already become the heart of American business. Nowadays, New York is the world’s centre of trade, finance, the arts, publishing, entertainment, sports and tourism.

The Chrysler Building was the first tallest skyscraper. But within 2 years it had been surpassed by the Empire State Building, which held the title for 45 years.

The Empire State Building is towering over Manhattan with 102 floors,73 elevators and over 35,000 visitors daily. With its upper 30 stories lighted at nightfall, this world-famous landmark may be seen from 50 miles away.

The Statue of Liberty is located in New York Harbor on Liberty Island.

This 300feet statue has become the symbol of liberty and was presented to the people of the United States, in 1883, by the people of France.

Rockefeller Centre and the Prometheus Statue cast in gold leaf over bronze standing over 18 feet (5.5m) high.

Times Square illuminated at night with its many neon signs. It is alsoknown as the ‘Great White Way’.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the leading Catholic Church in New YorkCity and one of the grandest cathedrals in the world. It is built of American marbles in French Gothic.

The Flatiron building appeared in 1902 on a narrow triangle where Broadway crosses 5th Avenue and 23rd Street.

The ‘Dakota’ apartment building built in 1880-1884 was once home to John Lennon. On December, 8, 1980 Lennon was murdered outside it.
