-Emergency stop - IEC60947-5-5

Control circuit devices and switching elements –Electrical emergency stop device with mechanical latching function

Page 7 of 60947-5-5 IEC:1997

The present IEC 60947-5-5 deals specifically with emergency stop devices with

mechanical latching function and gives additional electrical and mechanical requirements to those given in the following International Standards:

– ISO 13850 giving requirements for the emergency stop function of a machine, whatever be the energy used; 4.4.4 of ISO 13850 corresponds to 4.1.11 of EN418

– IEC 60204-1 giving additional requirements for an emergency stop function realized by the electrical equipment of a machine.

– IEC 60947-5-1 specifying electrical characteristics of electromechanical control circuit devices.

Vibration test

Frequency: 10-500Hz

Duration: 2 hours

Max. acc.: 50m/s2

Amplitude: 0,35mm

Latching and resetting testsOpening test

The actuator of the emergency stop device shall be moved slowly just to the point where latching occurs.

The normally closed contacts shall then be open. Verified by an impulse voltage test at 2 500 V.

Shock test

15g

During the test, the closed contacts shall not open, the open contacts, shall not closeand the latching mechanism shall not latch/unlatch.

The checking means shall be able to detect any opening or closing of contacts longer than0,2 ms.

3 Emergency stops are tested

Latching test

To simulate a normal human action, the emergency stop is mounted in front of a 1,6 kg hammer

After the strike the latching mechanism shall be latched.

3 Emergency stops are tested

Resetting test

Pulling force shall be less than 50 N;Torque shall be less than1 Nm;

Impact test

3 strikes with the 1,6 kg hammer, h=310mm

After each strike the emergencystop shall be latched.

After three strikes the actuator shall not be damaged
